In GWAS meta-analyses performed using METAL, are fixed-effects or random-effects models typically used? What are the reasons for choosing one approach over the other, and in which situations would each be more appropriate?

Thanks. Is there a particular reason why this approach is preferred in GWAS meta-analyses? In many conventional meta-analyses, random-effects models are commonly used, so I was wondering what makes GWAS meta-analysis different in this regard.
The hypothesis of fixed effect is that there is 1 true effect in the distribution, this is relaxed in the random effect model
